Issue date: 2/5/10 Section: Sports
Head Coach: Travis Scott, 7th season at ASU (275-88)
Last Season: 50-10 overall, 14-4 Lone Star Conference
Postseason: LSC Tournament Champions, NCAA D-II South Central Region Champions, National Semi-Finalists
2009 Season in Review
The Rambelles capped off an amazing 50-win season by claiming the LSC Championship tournament for the second consecutive year.
Hosting the NCAA D-II South Central Regional, the 'Belles won their second regional championship in three seasons.
ASU won two of their first three games in the National Tournament, before falling to the University of Alabama - Huntsville, the national runner-up, ending their magical season.
"We don't look at the way last year ended as a failure," Scott said. "Anytime you're able to go 50-10 in this region and this conference and make it to the National Tournament, that's a great accomplishment."
Departures
The 'Belle's will take the field in 2010 missing three key components from last season, which leaves Scott with the difficult task of replacing them.
Four-year starter at shortstop Macy Baker and catcher Laura Lopez finished their playing career, while D-II home run leader Sandy James has transferred to Texas Tech.
Baker's leadership on the field was an integral part of the team over her stellar career.
"You don't replace a Macy Baker," Scott said of the three-time All American. "She truly is what Angelo State Softball is all about. She showed up everyday, worked her tail off and just absolutely had a love and a passion for the game."
Baker will still be instrumental in the Rambelle's success however, returning to the team as a Student-Assistant coach, along side first-year assistant coach Katie Naumoff.
Returners
The 'Belles return six starters and two pitchers ready to lead the 2010 campaign.
All-American junior Alix Dean is back at second base where she batted .378 last season with seven home runs and 18 doubles.
