The Angelo State football coaching staff was "pleasantly surprised" Wednesday as the Rams added 30 high school signees to National Letters of Intent as signing period opened.
"This recruiting class is very balanced," said head coach Dale Carr, who enters his sixth season at the helm of the Rams this fall.
"We probably, a little bit over-signed, but that's good.
There were some players that didn't make their decisions until this past weekend so we had some nice surprise."
Among the 30 freshman that will join the program this fall, the Rams picked up 15 players on defense, 12 on offense and three athletes that were recruited at multiple positions.
Defensively, ASU collected six defensive backs, five linebackers and four defensive linemen.
Offensively, the Rams added six linemen, three wide receivers, two running backs and one tight end.
"It was an exciting day at ASU," Carr said. "We got a lot of skill players and a lot of linemen.
"We finished strong in the recruiting process and it definitely paid off."
