National Study Abroad Award
ASU received "Best Practice" for study abroad, and joins past winners such as Rice and the University of Pittsburgh.
The Institute for National Education named the Center for International Studies co-winner of the 2010 Andrew Heiskell award.
Over the past year, the number of students enrolled in the program have tripled due to the increased number of study abroad opportunities.
Other additions include the Passport Office, an online application process, increased faculty involvement and Rosetta Stone language training.
ASU is home to 103 international students.
Art gallery featuring Master's students' work
An exhibition, "Emergence," began Monday, Jan. 25 and runs through Feb. 26.
The exhibition is free to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Gallery 193 in the Carr Education-Fine Arts building.
Community Chorale begins rehearsals
The new Community Chorale started rehearsing Feb. 1 for a public performance, "Grand and Glorious," on April 27.
They will perform with the Concert Chorale and a chamber orchestra.
CC invites community members interested in singing to participate in the Monday practices, 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Membership is $150 plus $50 to cover music.
ASU alumnus and children's author
Seymour Simon, author of more than 80 books, will give the keynote address 9 a.m. at the Eighth Annual Literacy Conference on Sat., Feb 6 in the C.J. Davidson Center.
Brandon Ligon, ASU alumnus and Austin teacher, will speak at the luncheoun .
The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m.
The hosts designed the conference for teacher education students and classroom teachers. Tickets costs $10 for students and $40 for the public.
Faculty-led foreign conversations
Informal conversations in French, German, Russian and Spanish, held by the Department of Modern Language, will take place in Room 110/111 of the Houston Harte University Center.
Conversations are open and free to the public.
French conversations meet Mondays from 5- 6 p.m.
Russian on Mondays from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m.
German on Thursdays from 12:30 - 1:30
Spanish on Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

More than 300 West Texas high school and junior high students will display their science projects Tuesday, Feb. 23.
The three top-placing seniors win $1,500, $1,000 and $500 scholarships to ASU.
