Clinic runs out of flu vaccines

The university health clinic ran out of seasonal flu shots Oct. 2, after using the more than 400 vaccines supplied to them this season, Nurse Practitioner Kathe Conner said. Soon, there won't be any vaccinations in town, according to several local pharmacies.
Walmart, at the Bryant and 29th street location, will be administering the flu shots for $28 Friday and Saturday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Sherwood Way Walmart will not be participating in the weekend clinic.
Albertsons said they ran out on Tuesday. HEB administered shots for $25 on Wednesday and used all of its supply. HEB said they could get more in next week but could not make a guarantee.
Walgreens held a clinic on Thursday and will also give vaccinations Friday for those who have medical insurance. As of Wednesday, the San Angelo public health department also had no more shots and said they are not expecting to get another shipment this flu season.
"It's shocking to me that the clinic has already run out of the flu shots," senior Marissa Skye Gabaldon said. "It feels like a lot of us missed out on our chance to get the flu shots at a great price."
Sophomore Kelci Owens said the shortages of the shot won't affect her.
"My last flu shot was when I was a junior in high school, and I became sick for about a week," Owens said. "Since then I have not gotten a flu shot and do not plan on getting one in the future. I am not going to worry about catching the flu; if I catch it then I will deal with it then."
