The usually quiet ASU LeGrand Center parking lot bustled with activity Saturday as students, family and alumni gathered before the ASU football game.

Ram Jam, the pre-game party for every ASU home game, has grown since its inception in 2003.

"This has grown enormously since last year and we anticipate it doing the same next year," said Sande Harrison, executive director of the Alumni Association.

"We want to have a place for the students to come celebrate, have a good time before the game, build some tradition and some spirit."

The Alumni Association prepared for more participants than normal because of Family Day, but they expect just as many students at the next Ram Jam on Oct. 4.

The next Ram Jam will probably be about the same amount of people, because it is homecoming, Harrison said. There will be four more Ram Jam events this semester.

"We'd love to see it get to the level of division one schools, Harrison said. "Like at Tech they have Raider Rally and have it to where the students are doing their own activities."

Senior Jamie Mandujano represented the Newman Center by selling brownies.

More student organizations are represented this year than in previous years, Mandujano said.

The Ram Band, cheerleaders and Angelettes entertained the crowd in preparation for the game. Local bands also displayed their talent to audiences.

Not only were students entertained, but were also given chances to win gift cards to various restaurants, cash and the chance to win an ASU class ring.

Along with the chance to win prizes, students enjoyed a meal from Texas Roadhouse, Chick-fil-A, Pizza Hut or Nachos from $3 to $5.

Senior Christopher Cooper, a member of the Ram Band, enjoyed the food and the environment provided by Ram Jam.

"I really like the atmosphere," Cooper said. "It's cool to see everyone come together before the game.

It's not just students; it's also alumni and kids of alumni. There are all kinds of people here."

If food and entertainment were not enough to attract a crowd, participants were also able to hang out with Roscoe, the school mascot, and ASU's 14-month-old ram, Dominic, brought to the event by Block and Bridle.

"I think it's kind of a cool thing to be a part of." Cooper said. "What else are you doing on a Saturday afternoon?"
