School is back in session and the ASU Recreation Department is once again providing extracurricular activities for the students. Intramurals lets students play a variety of sports using school equipment and facilities. The sports include: football, basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, racquetball, tennis, golf, badminton, ultimate frisbee and kickball.

The Recreation Department is creating a variety of sports that reach out to many different students.

"When I first came to ASU I thought intramural sports would be a fun way to exercise, and it is," junior Jeremiah Bretones said.

"I never imagined how competitive it would be. Lets face it no one enjoys to lose so people get really into the game."

The Renegades is the team Bretones plays with in basketball.

They are defending champions and went on to the elite eight in the regional intramural tournament in Arlington.

"It was a great experience," he said. "We learned a lot and can build on that this coming year. I can't wait until basketball rolls around, the Renegades will be ready."

Intramurals is also a great way to meet new friends.

"When I was a freshman I played intramural football with a team of guys and have been friends with most ever since," senior Ben Borom said.

Flag football starts on Monday and if you are interested in playing on a team you can contact the ASU Recreation Department via e-mail at recsports@angelo.edu.

If you already have a team, the schedules came out today and are available in the Center for Human Performance on the first floor.

Intramurals not only give students the opportunity to play sports, but to make money as well. ASU is in the process of hiring students to referee games.

Applications can be obtained in the CHP and submitted there also. ASU pays $7 and will work around your schedules.

"The only advice I have is the referees are students also, so don't go crying and screaming to them if a call doesn't go your way," junior, Phillip Buckner said.

"Bad calls are bound to happen and if you want to then make a formal complaint."
