All the kinks are worked out and the engine is fine-tuned.

That's right. The Angelo State Track and Field team is poised and vigorously preparing for the Lone Star Conference Championships.

The preparation began after the Rams and Rambelles competed at the Michael Johnson Classic at Baylor University last weekend. Heading into the LSC Championships, ASU will look to build on their success in Waco.

"We saw some good individual marks," head coach James Reid said, "and we posted a lot of seasonal bests."

The stellar performance against distinguished Division-I competition will benefit the Rams and 'Belles when the LSC Championships roll around.

"At a big meet like that (Michael Johnson Open), you get to see whether or not your kids will cower down or step up," Reid said, "I feel like we stepped up."

Whitney Law undoubtedly rose to the occasion, finishing second in the pole vault with a vault of 3.70m. Her spectacular performance should catapult her into success in the conference meet.

"I'm very confident right now," Law said, "I couldn't be any more ready to compete at conference."

Adree Lakey continued to dominate the competition, finishing first in the hammer throw (53.54m), first in the javelin throw (48.19m), second in the shot put (14.23) and second in the discus throw (48.20m). Carmen Bickley medaled in the triple jump, taking the bronze (10.86m), while Alix Flores finished in fourth (10.67m).

Laryssa Hice high jumped her way to a fourth place finish (1.55m), while Kris Crockett took sixth (5.39m) in the long jump. Vaulting alongside Law, Danielle Dorsey finished in sixth with a vault of 3.55m.

On the women's track, Paige Massingill won the silver medal (18:57) in the 5000-meter run. Teammate Patricia Dailey finished four spots behind Massingill in sixth (21:45).
