The ASU baseball team defeated Southwestern Oklahoma three times last weekend to win the four-game series in Weatherford, Okla.

In the first game of the series last Friday, the Rams fell 7-1. ASU's only run came in the third inning when senior Jimmy Cox batted in junior Brian Rasberry on a double, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. However, the Bulldogs tied the score later that inning and took a 2-1 lead in the fourth. SWOSU never looked back from there, earning another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth and seventh innings.

Senior Brett Nightingale's record fell to 6-2 with this loss, as he gave up five runs on eight hits with one strikeout and two walks.

The Rams came back with a vengeance on Saturday, scoring 29 runs and exploding at the plate with 36 hits on the day as they swept the Bulldogs with scores of 12-4 and 17-3 in a nine inning/seven inning doubleheader.

Senior Charlie Belew and junior Shan Sullivan both led the Ram slugfest as they each tied the school record for hits in a game. Sullivan had five hits in the opener while Belew hit five in the second game, including his fourth home run of the season. Sullivan and Belew each ended the day with seven hits, four runs scored and six RBIs. In his first career start, freshman Travis Lites went 6-for-7 in both games, with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Junior Sean Winscher started the first game and pitched five innings, giving up only one run on five hits. He also had eight strikeouts, four walks and improved his record to 7-3.

Senior Bradley Durst started the second game and also pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk to put his record at 6-1 on the season.

In the final game of the series against the Bulldogs on Sunday, the Rams performed a first for the 2008 season. They won despite being down while going into the ninth inning. With this win, ASU took the series, 3-1.

The ninth began with a 6-5 SWOSU lead. The Rams avoided a double-play early in the inning that would have ended the game when junior Clay Calfee hit an infield single.

The Bulldog shortstop missed second base and Calfee beat his throw to first, which kept the Rams in position for a comeback. Junior Shan Sullivan hit two runs in to take the lead on another infield single. Charlie Belew hit a double which brought runners in from first and second and ended the ASU rally.

Senior Cole McKellar got the start for the Rams, and gave up four runs on nine hits. Sophomore Corey Morehouse came in to relieve McKellar in the eighth and got his first win as an ASU pitcher.
