Legislation 'shoots' for handguns on campus

The tragedy at Virginia Tech still resonates among students at ASU and a recent bill allowing the carrying of concealed handguns on college campuses in Texas has some students wondering if they would be protected if the unthinkable were to occur. Senior Pete Parker doesn't think that allowing concealed handguns on campus would do anything to stop violence if it were to occur.

SGA hopes for first victory against faculty, staff at softball game

The first Sunday of May will mark the 23rd annual softball game between the Student Government Association vs. ASU's faculty and staff and both sides of the rivalry are teeming with predictions of this year's outcome. ASU's Student Government Association swore in new senators at its meeting Monday. After reciting the oath of office, the senators were appointed a department to represent. SGA voted three weeks ago to realign its representation from colleges to departments in order to better represent students.
Students honored with presidential and distinguished awards

Several ASU students will be recognized for their achievements with the Presidential and Distinguished Student Awards. Senior Biology major Jason Strickland will receive the Presidential Award along with the five students receiving the Distinguished Student awards for their respective undergraduate colleges.
Math department calculates changes of class sequences

Students will see three main changes within the department: a revamping of the precalculus/calculus sequence, creation of a new minor and changing course requirements for math majors, according to Dr. Paul Swets, head of the Department of Mathematics, "In the past, we have had the following sequence: Math 1361 Precalculus I, Math 1362 Precalculus II, Math 2331 Calculus I, Math 2332 Calculus II and Math 3333 Calculus III," Swets said.
Faculty bids ASU goodbye

At the end of the spring semester, many faculty members held in high esteem by colleagues and students alike will say farewell to ASU. Dr. Fritz Leifeste Dr. Leifeste, Associate Professor of Curriculum and instruction, will be retiring after 39 years of teaching, 10 at ASU.
