Characters Capture Crowd at 'Spooktacular' Concert

Julius Caesar, Marilyn Monroe, Jack Skellington and the Phantom of the Opera were among the sea of singing faces at the seventh annual Spooktacular. The event Tuesday night, Oct. 23, drew a diverse crowd of about 1,500 that filled nearly every seat in the San Angelo City Auditorium as the ASU choir sang songs at their "Hollywood Halloween" themed concert.

A night of poker chips, prizes and the possibility of victory drew in nearly 150 students to the semi-annual "Ram Hold 'em" Poker Tournament. The event, held at the UC C.J. Davidson Conference Center, included free giveaways, free food and prizes for those who came with game faces normally reserved for the blackjack tables of Sin City.
Hindman Receives Eminent Honor

Dr. James Hindman, who is enjoying his first year of retirement after serving almost 13 years as ASU's president, was awarded the title of President Emeritus by the Texas Tech Board of Regents last Friday. "I am very pleased and honored they granted me the title," Hindman said.

The internationally renowned pianist, Helen Lin graced the Carr Recital Hall with her presence as she taught a master class Monday, Oct. 22, along with music professor, Dr. John Irish. "She's gonna bring that level of talent and musicianship," Irish said before the class.
